Club Deportivo Leganés sign Yassine Kechta on four-year deal
Club Deportivo Leganés has officially announced the signing of Yassine Kechta, a 24-year-old Franco-Moroccan midfielder from Le Havre. The player arrives on a free transfer after his contract with the French side expired and signs for four seasons, until June 2030.
Kechta’s arrival comes in a summer market where the pepinero side has already completed three signings: Javi Atienza, Zico Buurmeester, and Kechta. His addition strengthens a midfield zone the club considers overcrowded, which could speed up the exits of players like Andrés Campos or Gonzalo Melero.
A long-standing interest
Leganés’ interest in Kechta is not new. The club was close to signing him in the winter 2026 transfer window, but the deal collapsed at the last moment due to an extraordinary personal circumstance involving the player. That was confirmed in February by then-vice president Eduardo Cosín (now president) on the local radio show Hora Blanquiazul.
The news broke accidentally when, during the renovation of Le Havre’s website, a draft announcement of Kechta’s move to Leganés was published. The error exposed an interest that had not surfaced in either Spain or France up to that point.
Kechta’s profile and potential
Kechta, a Le Havre academy graduate, featured in 31 Ligue 1 matches last season, 14 as a starter. Across those games, he logged 1,331 minutes, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
His arrival at Leganés comes at a time when the club is looking to streamline its squad. The Segunda División side has already spent one million euros on Buurmeester and adjusted Atienza’s wages to secure his signing. Kechta arrives to compete in a zone the club views as saturated, but his Ligue 1 experience could prove crucial to the project.
Selling pressure mounts
Kechta’s addition raises the stakes for players like Andrés Campos and Gonzalo Melero, two of the midfielders Leganés wants to offload. The pepinero board is aiming to trim the wage bill in a squad that has already seen four signings this summer.
Leganés, no longer the side of previous seasons, is facing a summer of change with the goal of strengthening its midfield and improving its competitiveness in the Segunda División.
